The Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) founded this national suicide prevention hotline to ensure veterans in emotional crisis have free, 24/7 access to trained counselors. To operate the Veterans Hotline, the VA partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Veterans can call the Lifeline number, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), and press "1" to be routed to the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline

Enroll in "Combat Veteran" Health Benefits - www.va.gov/healtheligibility/application
To take advantage of these health care benefits, you must enroll in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Health Care system with five years of separation. Do this in person at any VHA facility or complete VA form 10-10EZ, "Application for Health Benefits" at the link above. You can also mail the application to the VHA facility where you'd like to receive your care. Include your DD-214 (separation document).
